“I’m Still a Politician, Not Corporate” – Sammy Gyamfi Defends His Identity at Gold Board
Sammy Gyamfi has dismissed claims that his appointment as CEO of the Gold Board has shifted him into a corporate mindset, maintaining that his political roots remain unchanged.
In an upcoming episode of PM Express Business Edition on Joy News, he emphasized that his new position does not redefine who he is.
“I’m still deeply involved in politics. What we are doing is political work, so I don’t consider myself a corporate figure,” he explained.
He further clarified that he continues to serve as the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), although his involvement has reduced due to his current responsibilities.
“I still hold that role, but my availability has significantly decreased,” he admitted.
According to him, the gap created by his reduced public engagement has been effectively managed by other members of the party’s communication team.
“I’ve supported capable individuals, including a deputy and the Minister for Government Communications, and they’ve stepped in strongly. We’re working together seamlessly,” he said.
Despite being less visible, Gyamfi noted that he remains actively engaged in political communication behind the scenes.
“We are still doing a lot of political communication work, even in this role, but mostly in the background. At the right time, people will see more of us,” he stated.
He also expressed confidence in the younger generation of communicators within the party, praising their competence and effectiveness.
“We have a strong team of young, talented communicators who are continuing the work we started,” he added.
Gyamfi acknowledged that his reduced media presence may be noticeable to the public.
“People may miss seeing or hearing from you regularly, and we’ll make time to address that,” he said.
However, he stressed that his current priority is focused on delivering results in his new role.
“Our main task now is to transform Ghana’s gold sector and ensure the country fully benefits from its natural resources,” he concluded.
