Former NEIP Boss Voluntarily Met NIB, Was Not Arrested – Lawyers Clarify

Lawyers representing former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, have refuted reports suggesting he was arrested by the National Investigation Bureau (NIB).

The clarification follows a Facebook post by Dzifa Gunu, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Digital Centre Limited, which implied that Mr. Nkansah had been “picked up” by investigators after allegedly ignoring earlier invitations.

According to his legal team, led by Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, Mr. Nkansah willingly presented himself to the NIB to assist with investigations into claims that government-sponsored foreign scholarships were being sold through the Scholarship Secretariat.

The lawyers explained that his appearance was in direct response to a directive from President John Dramani Mahama, who ordered the NIB to probe the allegations after Mr. Nkansah raised the issue during a radio discussion on Sompa 106.5 FM.

During the programme, he alleged that some individuals were paying money to secure overseas scholarships, raising concerns about fairness and accountability in the allocation of public-funded educational opportunities.

The Presidency later described the claims as serious and of significant public interest, instructing the NIB to verify the allegations, identify any persons involved, and submit its findings for further action.

Mr. Nkansah’s lawyers stressed that he has fully cooperated with investigators and was never arrested, but rather voluntarily provided information to support the inquiry.
