EOCO Declares Dr. Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple a Fugitive Amid Gold Fraud Investigations
The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has officially declared Dr. Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple a fugitive, intensifying its ongoing investigations into alleged gold fraud involving SESI-EDEM Company Ltd.
In a press release dated April 9, 2026, EOCO addressed recent public statements attributed to the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, which commented on the agency’s investigation. EOCO clarified that it is currently handling three separate petitions against Dr. Kwamigah-Atokple and his company, all of which reportedly follow a similar pattern of alleged fraudulent activity in the gold trade.
The Office emphasized that its work is being conducted strictly within its legal mandate, dismissing claims suggesting otherwise. According to the statement, EOCO has provided the suspect and his company with opportunities since November 2025 to cooperate and prove their innocence. However, the agency claims these efforts have been unsuccessful, alleging that the suspect has instead resorted to using political, traditional, and media channels to obstruct justice.
EOCO further stated that no individual is above the law and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring accountability. It revealed that Dr. Kwamigah-Atokple is currently on the run and is believed to be hiding within the Volta Region.
To facilitate his arrest, EOCO’s Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU) has been deployed to track and apprehend the suspect. The Office has also called on the public to assist by providing any information regarding his whereabouts to the nearest EOCO office.
The statement underscores EOCO’s determination to pursue justice and maintain public trust amid growing scrutiny over the high-profile case.
