Electricity and Water Tariffs to Drop from April 1 as PURC Announces New Reductions
The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced a reduction in electricity and water tariffs by 4.81 percent and 3.06 percent respectively, effective April 1.
According to the Commission, the adjustment forms part of its routine review of utility tariffs aimed at reflecting changes in key economic indicators while ensuring that consumers are not overburdened.
The reduction means consumers of electricity and water across the country will pay slightly less for the services starting next month. Electricity tariffs are set to decline by 4.81 percent, while water tariffs will see a 3.06 percent decrease.
The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission explained that the periodic tariff review considers several factors, including exchange rate movements, inflation, fuel costs and the operational needs of utility service providers.
The Commission further indicated that the adjustment is intended to balance the sustainability of utility providers with the need to offer relief to consumers.
The new tariffs will take effect nationwide from April 1.
