Concerned National Democratic Congress executives in Ahanta West petition John Dramani Mahama over MCE’s conduct
Branch executives of the NDC in Ahanta West have petitioned President Mahama for the removal of the Municipal Chief Executive, citing alleged misconduct, corruption, and incompetence.
Concerned branch executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ahanta West have formally petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to remove the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly over allegations of misconduct, corruption, and incompetence.
In a petition dated February 12, 2026, the group cited Article 243(3) of the 1992 Constitution, which grants the President the authority to revoke the appointment of an MCE on grounds of stated misconduct or incompetence.
The petition details several accusations, including alleged abuse of power and disrespect toward the General Assembly. According to the executives, the MCE allegedly locked the Assembly Hall to block a properly convened meeting summoned by the Presiding Member.
They also claim the MCE was involved in illegal mining-related misconduct, alleging that seized excavators were released without proper accountability and that security personnel were used to extort funds from illegal miners. The petitioners say supporting evidence including videos and mobile money transaction records has been submitted.
Further allegations include conflicts of interest in contract awards, such as the Busua-Dixcove Bridge project and a School Feeding Programme contract, as well as interference in chieftaincy matters said to have contributed to tensions within the municipality.
The executives additionally accuse the MCE of financial mismanagement, particularly for failing to deploy district road machinery for feeder road maintenance while reportedly authorising the hiring of external equipment at additional cost.
They argue that the MCE’s continued tenure undermines local governance, party cohesion, and development efforts, and have urged the President to take swift and decisive action.
