CLOGSAG Declares Indefinite Nationwide Strike Over Delayed Conditions of Service

Members of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana have begun an indefinite nationwide strike today, Monday, March 9, in protest against what the association says are prolonged delays in implementing their agreed conditions of service.

The strike is expected to disrupt operations in several ministries, departments, and agencies, as well as local government offices across the country, where CLOGSAG members constitute a large portion of the administrative workforce.

According to the leadership of the association, the decision to embark on the industrial action follows multiple unsuccessful attempts to engage the government on the implementation of the agreed conditions.

The development comes despite an order from the National Labour Commission directing the association to suspend the strike and return to negotiations.

However, CLOGSAG leaders have instructed members nationwide to disregard the directive and proceed with the strike, arguing that the government, as their employer, has failed to adequately address their concerns.

Association officials say the delay in enforcing the agreed conditions of service has led to growing frustration among members, who believe their welfare and working conditions have been neglected.

Speaking to masemtvgh.com ahead of the strike, the Public Relations Officer of CLOGSAG, Edmund Aquaye, said the association had not received any official response from the government since announcing the strike notice last week.

He added that the decision to go ahead with the strike remains firm because the government has not communicated with the association regarding its demands.

According to him, the National Executive Council of CLOGSAG has therefore urged all members across the country to stay away from work starting March 9 until their concerns are addressed.
