Berekum East Assembly Distributes 10,000 Birds Under ‘Nkokɔ Nketinketi’ Initiative

The Berekum East Municipal Assembly, led by Municipal Chief Executive Hajia Fati Abubarkar, has distributed 10,000 hybrid poultry birds to beneficiaries in the Wenchi Municipality under the government’s National Poultry Production Special Initiative, popularly known as “Nkokɔ Nketinketi.”

The exercise forms part of government’s 2024 campaign pledge to revitalise Ghana’s poultry industry, reduce dependence on imported frozen chicken, and empower local farmers to reclaim the value chain in poultry production, processing, marketing, and consumption.

Addressing beneficiaries drawn from polling stations across the Wenchi Constituency, the MCE emphasised that the initiative is designed to create jobs, strengthen local production, and promote self-reliance in food security.

She explained that the “Nkokɔ Nketinketi” programme seeks to bring poultry farming directly to households, schools, institutions, and communities, enabling participants to transition from subsistence farming to sustainable commercial production.

According to her, government will provide technical guidance and essential inputs to support anchor farmers and ensure the long-term success of the project. She further tasked NDC polling station and branch executives, agricultural extension officers, and opinion leaders to closely monitor and supervise beneficiaries to guarantee accountability and productivity.

The initiative, launched by President John Dramani Mahama under the broader Feed Ghana Programme, aims to distribute over three million birds to more than 60,000 households and farmers nationwide, with technical backing to strengthen capacity and improve livelihoods.

The Assembly expressed confidence that the programme will significantly boost local poultry production, stimulate rural economic growth, and enhance living standards across beneficiary communities.
