Police Arrest 22-Year-Old Suspect Over Viral ‘Bandit’ Video That Sparked Fear and Panic Among Public
The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 22-year-old suspect, Evans Puplampu, for allegedly causing fear and panic among members of the public after circulating a viral video in which he posed as a bandit and made threatening remarks targeting churches in Ghana.
The suspect was picked up on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Ashaiman Community 22 following what police described as sustained intelligence gathering and surveillance operations.
The arrest comes after a disturbing video surfaced on TikTok showing the suspect with his face covered under the caption: “We are starting from Ghana churches.” The post quickly went viral, triggering widespread concern and anxiety among the public.
According to the police, Evans Puplampu admitted during interrogation that he was the individual in the video. He explained that he had copied a similar trending pose circulating on social media “for fun” and insisted he had no intention of causing harm or panic.
Investigators also retrieved a Samsung Galaxy A15 mobile phone believed to have been used to create and share the video. The device has since been retained as evidence to support ongoing investigations.
Police say the suspect remains in custody and is assisting with further investigations. He is expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days to face the appropriate legal processes.
The Ghana Police Service has meanwhile cautioned the public against sharing misleading or threatening content online, stressing that such actions can create unnecessary fear and will be treated seriously under the law.
