Ghana’s Economy Records 7.5% Growth in January 2026
Ghana’s economy grew by 7.5% in January 2026, driven largely by strong services sector performance, according to the Ghana Statistical Service’s Monthly Indicator of Economic Growth.
Ghana’s economy expanded by 7.5% in January 2026, according to new figures released by the Ghana Statistical Service, indicating continued growth at the start of the year, though slightly lower than the 8.2% recorded in January 2025.
The Monthly Indicator of Economic Growth (MIEG) showed that the services sector led the expansion, growing by 9.6% and contributing 54.3% of overall growth. The industry sector followed with a 7.2% increase, accounting for 29.0%, while agriculture recorded the slowest pace at 4.5%, contributing 14.0%.
Government Statistician Alhassan Iddrisu noted that the strong performance of the services sector highlights its dominant role in the economy, reinforcing the country’s shift toward service-led growth.
Despite the positive outlook, the data revealed uneven performance across sectors. The slower expansion in agriculture has raised concerns about productivity in a sector that remains vital for employment and food security. Meanwhile, industry growth, though steady, suggests opportunities exist to enhance value addition and increase output.
Analysts indicate that maintaining the current momentum will require a balanced strategy that strengthens industrial capacity, improves agricultural productivity, and leverages the continued growth of services to support broader economic resilience throughout 2026.
