Bono Regional Minister Highlights Increased Development Funding, Urges Open-Door Governance

Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboah, Bono Regional Minister, has outlined key government achievements and funding commitments to the region during a communications workshop in Sunyani. The engagement brought together party communicators and officials to discuss development priorities and improved information flow.

Addressing participants, the Minister disclosed a significant rise in the release of the District Assemblies Common Fund. According to him, only GHS 7 million was disbursed to assemblies in 2024 under the previous administration. However, the current government released approximately GHS 100 million for the 2025 fiscal year, describing it as a major boost to grassroots development.

Hon. Akwaboah expressed confidence that the upward trend would continue, noting that plans are underway to ensure even higher and more timely releases for 2026. He explained that the increased funding would enable District Assemblies to address urgent infrastructure challenges and improve service delivery across communities.

Beyond funding, the Minister called for an “open-door” approach to governance. He urged communicators to actively engage with assemblies, gather firsthand information on projects, and collaborate closely with Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to highlight government achievements.

He also encouraged MMDCEs within the Bono Region to make themselves accessible to communication teams to ensure accurate reporting and improved public awareness of development initiatives.

The Minister emphasized that the government remains committed to completing ongoing projects while initiating new ones, maintaining fiscal promptness, and promoting transparency. He noted that communicators now have a crucial responsibility to serve as a bridge between assembly-level projects and the Ghanaian public.

The update comes as the Bono Region experiences increased activity in infrastructure delivery and public accountability, with expectations of further improvements in the coming year
